At just 22 years old, London singer-songwriter Amie Blu unveils her debut album, ‘When All Is Said and Done’. Running just over 35 minutes, this 12-track project delves deep into themes of personal growth, love and loss, showcasing Blu's seamless blend of folk-pop and R&B influences.
In Amie’s words “I struggle to find anything positive in my life and feel this constant weight mentally but also physically. I want to get better and I’m trying to get better, but despite all my efforts, I often still feel the same. This album is such an honest depiction of how I feel and how so many other people feel who struggle with depression.”.
Putting a retrospective into our feelings and ourselves in order to create some form of art has always been done. Artists like Billie Eilish or Adele have expressed how making music helped them to process their feelings and experiences. Channelling the pain and transforming it into art that others can understood and resonate with.
A Glimpse into the Album
The album opens with tracks like ‘swimming in pity’, ‘worse’, and ‘missing everything’, setting a contemplative tone. These songs are characterized by their introspective lyrics and melancholic tone, allowing Blu's emotive vocals to take center stage.
As the album progresses, the tracks shift from rawness and introspection to self acceptance, complexities and independence like in ‘take me as I am’ or ‘if I leave’, reflecting Blu's journey towards healing and openness.
The last three tracks, shadow, falling to pieces and when there’s a will there’s a way, unveils us the darker aspects of oneself, understanding and a culmination of overcoming the obstacles.
