MGK Review
Kathleen Cadence
MGK - formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, aka Colson Baker. Whatever name he goes by, he has never disappointed me with a live show. I’ve had the opportunity to see him perform multiple times over the years and somehow always leave feeling even more impressed than the last time.
What surprised me the most about this tour was how much of the setlist came from the previous albums, I honestly expected the show to focus more heavily on the new album with only a few older songs mixed in. To be clear, I'm not complaining - I will happily listen to just about any song that comes from MGK. Still, I was slightly caught off guard by how many fan favorites made their way into the set.
Regardless of the setlist, MGK knows how to put on a show. One of the things that has always stood out is how much he interacts with the crowd. He notices the little things, especially the children in attendance, and I think that might be a reflection of him being a dad himself. Watching those interactions is always genuinely sweet and adds a personal touch to the performance. And the crowd engagement doesn’ t stop there. MGK made his way into the audience to perform a few songs off stage and even gave shoutouts to specific fans throughout the night, including one shirtless guy whose dancing clearly caught his attention. Moments like these keep the energy high and make every show feel unique.
Whether he was performing new tracks from the most recent album like “Cliche” and “Vampire Diaries” or bringing out classics such as “Bloody Valentine” and “My Ex’s Best Friend” there was never a dull moment. His ability to connect with fans, combined with a full catalog of songs that the audience loves to sing along to makes every performance memorable. After seeing him multiple times one thing remains true, it is always a show filled with memorable moments, genuine interactions and an atmosphere that leaves everyone eager for the next tour.
